It is one of the largest attractions at zoos, animal and safari parks, and circuses. It is also the long standing symbol of the republican party thanks to cartoonist Thomas Nast who drew a donkey in a lion's skin scaring away all the animals at the zoo; the elephant, was labeled "The republican vote.".
